There was no threat of a tsunami after an earthquake of magnitude 7.4 struck near the east coast of Russia's Kamchatka region on Saturday, the U.S. National Weather Service's Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii said.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) pegged the magnitude at 7.4, with a depth of 39.5 km.
The German Research Centre for Geosciences had the magnitude at 7.1, with a depth of 10 km.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), confirmed there was no tsunami risk to New Zealand.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning System initially said there was a threat of a possible tsunami from the earthquake.
In Japan, to the southwest of the Kamchatka Peninsula, no tsunami warning has been issued, broadcaster NHK reported, citing the Japan Meteorological Agency.
Kamchatka was the same region as the massive shake a month ago.
There was no information so far about injuries.
The quake in August measured 8.8, one of the strongest recorded on modern seismic equipment.
