UK to curb non-EU arrivals

6:01 am on 27 June 2010

Britain is to place a temporary limit on the number of non-European Union workers allowed into the UK.

The number will be lowered by 5% to 24,100 by April next year.

The BBC reports the aim is to prevent a sudden influx in arrivals before a permanent limit is introduced next year.

An immigration curb was an election pledge by the Conservative Party.

Home Secretary Theresa May will announce the move on Monday.
