At least 12 people were killed when a high-speed Spanish passenger train slammed into a group of revellers crossing a railway track late at night.
Thirteen others were reportedly injured in the accident at the Castelldefels Playa station south of Barcelona late on Wednesday night, the ABC reports.
Spanish media quoted by AFP in the ABC's report say the dead and injured were mostly youths celebrating an annual midsummer festival, which includes bonfires, fireworks, concerts and dances, often on the beach.
Reports say some festival-goers had just arrived at the station on another train from Barcelona and were crossing the tracks to go to the beach, although a pedestrian underpass was available.
One witness, Fernando Ortega, says the train they arrived on was very full, a large number of people got out at the same time and "most decided to jump across the tracks and cross to the other side of the station" to avoid the crush.
It was then that the northbound express train came past suddenly.
