Sea Shepherd told to stop violent protests - Dalai Lama

The Dalai Lama has criticised wildlife activists for staging what he called violent protests over Japan's hunting of whales.

The exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, who is on an 11-day lecture tour of Japan, said he had told the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society to stop its harassment of Japan's whaling fleet.

The Dalai Lama said he supported Sea Shepherd's goal of preventing whalers from harming whales but added that "their (activities) should be non-violent".
