The government in Thailand has withdrawn its offer to anti-government demonstrators to hold fresh elections in November.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva had proposed the election date of 14 November as part of a reconciliation plan aimed at ending a two-month political crisis that has paralysed the capital and led to the deaths of at least 29 people.
Despite shelving the election offer, the BBC reports, the Thai government still plans to press ahead with its self described road map to reconciliation.
The government has also backed away from its so-called ultimatum to the protesting Red Shirts to leave their encampment by Thursday morning or face measures to evict them, including cutting off water and power supplies, the BBC says.
The protestors had said they would not leave the area.
