One of the best-known landmarks in the Indian city of Mumbai, the Oberoi Hotel, is open again, 18 months after being badly damaged in a terrorist attack on the city.

Nearly 170 people died in the attack on 26 November 2008. More than 30 of them were hotel staff and guests.

Many rooms were destroyed when gunmen rampaged through the hotel, firing indiscriminately and setting off explosions.

The BBC reports the hotel has now been refurbished at a cost of $US35 million.
