Re-think on DDT mosquito ban urged

10:11 am on 23 April 2010

Two researchers are calling for a rethink on a worldwide ban on the use of the chemical DDT against mosquitoes that carry malaria.

Environmental campaigners say the chemical can cause birth defects.

But two United States-based researchers argue DDT has saved the lives of millions of people without harming human health.

One of the researchers, Donald Roberts, says the chemical could have a huge impact on ending malaria in developing countries.
