Covid-19: Victoria has 1221 new local cases, four deaths, NSW has 250 cases

Victoria has recorded 1221 new local Covid-19 cases and four deaths.

There are now 16,671 active cases of the virus in Victoria, and 407 people have died in the state during the current Delta outbreak.

Those who died were aged in their 60s, 70s, and 90s.

There are now 405 people in hospital with Covid-19 in Victoria, of whom 77 are in intensive care and 51 are on a ventilator.

There were 10,708 vaccine doses administered at state-run sites yesterday, and more vaccinations at GP clinics and other venues.

Victoria has now fully vaccinated 86 percent of its 12+ population and is on track to reach 90 percent before the target date of 24 November.

Restrictions will be eased when the 90 percent vaccination target is reached.

The health department said a further 63 people were in intensive care but their infections were no longer considered active and they did not require the same infection control.

The new cases were identified from 60,818 test results received yesterday.

Other states

New South Wales recorded 250 new locally acquired Covid-19 cases and no deaths in the 24 hour reporting period to 8pm last night.

Just over 94 percent of NSW people aged 16+ have received their first dose of a vaccine, while nearly 91 percent of the state is now fully vaccinated.

ACT recorded 11 new locally acquired Covid-19 cases, while Queensland did not record any.

Elective surgery resumes in Victoria

Private hospitals have resumed elective surgery in some regional centres at up to 50 percent capacity per week.

Hospitals in Ballarat, Shepparton, Latrobe, and Bendigo resumed elective surgeries yesterday.

From Monday, private hospitals in Geelong and metropolitan Melbourne can resume elective surgeries, also within a 50 percent capacity per week.

The deadline for all employees and contractors on Victorian construction sites to be fully vaccinated has passed.

Workers in Victoria's residential aged care sector have until Monday to be fully vaccinated.
