The deaths include two women in their 80s, one was unvaccinated and one had had one dose of vaccine, a man in his 80s who had had one dose of vaccine and another in his 70s who had also had one dose of vaccine.

At least 41 today's Covid-19 cases were infectious while still in the community.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced that Greater Sydney will extend its lockdown by another month until end of September.

New South Wales people must wear masks outdoors from midnight on Monday unless they are exercising and those who are exercising must have masks with them and wear them if they come into contact with anybody else, Berejiklian said.

She asked people to limit their exercise to one hour a day.

The NSW government also announced a 9pm to 5am curfew in the parts of Sydney most affected by Covid-19 which will come into force on Monday.

Victoria

Victoria has recorded 55 new community cases of Covid-19 and only 25 of them were in quarantine during their infectious period.

The state has also detected a case in Shepperton which is the first case detected in regional Victoria during the state's most recent outbreak.

Restrictions were eased in the regions within the first week of lockdown, after Premier Daniel Andrews cited a "degree of containment" around the Melbourne outbreak.

But for days authorities have been sounding concern over repeated wastewater detections in Shepparton which dated back to 9 to 16 August.

Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg this morning assured Victorians that the federal government would continue to support the state through the lockdown.

But he warned ongoing support would not be sustainable once vaccination targets agreed upon by National Cabinet were reached.

Frydenberg said Australians had to understand that the nation would not be able to completely eliminate the virus.

"It's a fallacy to talk about elimination or expect us to reach elimination," he told ABC Radio Melbourne.

"The public have to get used to the fact, even though it might be a very uncomfortable one, that living with the virus means you will see illness, you will see death, you will see more cases."

But Victoria's Minister for Industry Support & Recovery Minister Martin Pakula disagreed, stating elimination was possible for the state.

Queensland

There were no new community cases of Covid-19 in Queensland overnight.

However, there was one new locally acquired case - a historical case detected in home quarantine - and linked to the Indooroopilly Delta cluster.
