Jorge Ramos, who works for the Spanish-language channel Univision, started asking a question at the event in Dubuque, Iowa, about Mr Trump's proposed plans to deny citizenship to babies of illegal immigrants born in the United States, as well as to deport everyone in the country without residence papers.

"Excuse me, sit down - you weren't called. Sit down. Sit down," said Mr Trump, before Mr Ramos was shown out of the room by security guards.

When pressed by other reporters, Mr Trump said that he had not been responsible for Mr Ramos' exit.

"I didn't escort him out - you'll have to talk to Security, who escorted him out. He just stood up and started screaming," he asserted.

"I don't know where he is - I don't mind if he comes back, frankly."

Mr Ramos later returned to the room and was able to ask a question.

In June, Mr Trump accused Mexico of sending rapists and criminals to the US.
