A global survey of 131 cities has identified Singapore as the most expensive in the world.
Singapore replaces Tokyo at the top of the list compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit.
The Worldwide Cost of Living Survey is a relocation tool that uses New York city as a base and looks at more than 400 individual prices, the BBC reports.
Singapore's strong currency combined with the high cost of running a car and soaring utility bills contributed to the Asian city topping the list. It is also the most expensive place in the world to buy clothes.
The other cities in the top five are Paris, Oslo, Zurich and Sydney, with Tokyo falling to sixth place.
In New Zealand, Auckland is ranked 17th most expensive, and the capital, Wellington, is 19th.
Plummeting prices in the Syrian capital of Damascus have sent it down the list to become the fourth cheapest city in the world.
