Man dies in shark attack in New South Wales

In Australia, an 18-year-old man has been killed in a shark attack north of Coffs Harbour on the New South Wales north coast.

The man died at Campbell's Beach after receiving severe leg injuries, the ABC reports.

He was body boarding with friends about 100 metres off the beach.

The police say he was bitten on the legs by what is thought to have been a shark.

His friends managed to get him to shore, where he died a short time later.

A Coffs Harbour lifeguard, Greg Hickford, says the area is popular with body boarders and shark attacks are rare there.

An ambulance spokesperson says the death was a result of traumatic cardiac arrest.

It comes just a week after Queensland surfer Chris Boyd was killed by a shark while surfing off Gracetown, about 270km south of Perth in Western Australia.
