Former Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd formally tendered his resignation from parliament on Friday.
AAP reports he told parliament on 13 November that he would stand down from the Brisbane seat of Griffith.
Speaker Bronwyn Bishop said she received his resignation letter on Friday and would consider possible dates for a by-election.
