Boeing 737 plane crash reported

A Boeing 737 passenger plane has crashed on landing at Kazan in western Russia. All 50 people aboard were killed.

The Emergencies Ministry said the flight from Moscow made a second attempt at landing and exploded on impact on Sunday, killing all 44 passengers and six crew on board.

Kazan is the capital of Tatarstan and the flight was operated by a regional airline.

A blurred video showing a bright flash of light was broadcast of Russian television. Pictures showed charred wreckage scattered over a wide area.

Emergency services are trying to work out whether the crash was caused by pilot or technical error, or whether it was indeed an accident.
