Eight people die as monster truck ploughs into spectators

Eight people have been killed at an air show in Mexico, after a monster truck ran out of control and ploughed into spectators.

At least 40 people were seriously hurt.

The crowd had been enjoying the final events of the day at the Chihuahua Extreme Air Show when the tragedy struck.

The driver of a monster truck with wheels as large as one and half metres tall appeared to lose control immediately after performing a car crashing stunt.

The BBC reports that horrified spectators watched on hopelessly as the truck ploughed into the audience.

Investigations into the cause of the accident are underway and the state governor has expressed his sorrow on Twitter.

But some are calling for an investigation into safety measures at events like this and are asking how the audience could be placed so close to the trucks performing stunts.
