Police in London said on Friday that eight people have been arrested in connection with the theft of £1.3 million after the computer system of a branch of Barclays bank was infiltrated.
A device that allows computers to be accessed remotely was attached to a computer at the Swiss Cottage branch of Santander UK in April.
Police said the device enabled cash to be siphoned from accounts and transferred it to other bank accounts.
The eight suspects were arrested on Thursday and Friday. Searches at properties across London yielded cash, jewellery and drugs as well as thousands of credit cards, and personal data.
Police said Barclays was able to recover a significant amount of the stolen cash.
