Old billboards still up in electorate

Former Queensland premier Peter Beattie hopes large billboards of the man he replaced as Labor candidate in the south Brisbane seat of Forde will be taken down on Wednesday.

Mr Beattie took over as Labor candidate last Thursday in a high-profile announcement alongside Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

But AAP reports Labor is yet to pull down billboards featuring a photo of former candidate Des Hardman with Mr Rudd on one of Queensland's most busiest motorways - the M1 between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Mr Beattie said it wasn't ideal the billboards were still up, but he was confident voters would not hold it against him or the party.

"I don't feel embarrassed about it. I wish they were gone, but people know there's been a candidate change," he said on Wednesday.

"People are not stupid. They know it takes a few days for the signs to come down. That's life," he said.
