A magnitude 6.2 earthquake has hit southern Iran with local media reporting damaged villages and several injuries.
The US Geological Survey says the epicentre of the quake was 85 kilometres southeast of the southern town of Minab at a depth of about 36 kilometres.
The head of Iran's Red Crescent rescue corps told the Fars news agency at least 11 people had been injured in five villages where several houses had been levelled.
AAP reports that Iran sits astride several major fault lines and is prone to frequent earthquakes, some of which have been devastating.
