Gunmen in Pakistan have kidnapped the son of a former prime minister during a political rally.
Ali Haider Gilani is the son of Yusuf Raza Gilani of the Pakistan People's Party, who was seized on Thursday in the city of Multan.
An aide was shot and killed and five other people were wounded.
Ali Haider - the youngest son of the ex-prime minister - is contesting a seat in the Punjab provincial assembly.
Yousuf Raza Gilani served as prime minister until June 2012, when he was forced out of office by the Supreme Court over his refusal to pursue a corruption case against President Asif Ali Zardari.
Also on Thursday, a letter from the leader of the Pakistani Taliban revealed plans for suicide bomb attacks on election day this weekend.
Since April, the Taliban have killed more than 100 people in attacks on election candidates and at rallies.
The BBC reports kidnaps are frequent in Pakistan and ransom is an important revenue stream for the Pakistani Taliban.
