Snow causes travel disruption in Europe

Heavy snow in north-western Europe is causing disruption to travel, including the cancellation of hundreds of flights via Frankfurt and Paris.

The Eurostar high-speed train service between London and Paris has also been suspended.

Frankfurt airport, which is Europe's third busiest hub, has since partially re-opened.

A spokesperson says about 12cm of snow had fallen on the airport.

In south-eastern England, hundreds of people were stranded in their cars as emergency services struggled with chaos on the roads, the BBC reports.

Huge traffic jams were also experienced in Belgium and northern France.
