Queensland road damage

2:01 pm on 7 March 2013

Recent floods in Queensland caused $A1.5 billion worth of damage to roads across the state.

Transport Minister Scott Emerson said roads in the North and South Burnett regions in the south of the state are the worst hit and will need to be rebuilt to withstand future floods.

He said more federal funding is needed:

"What's happened from these flood events over the last couple of weeks ... our estimate is about $A1.5 billion worth of work that will now need to to be done," Mr Emerson said.

''We understand how important it is to get these roads fixed ... they are lifelines not just for convenience for people but economic lifelines too."
