The latest storm to disrupt the United States has brought heavy snowfalls in mid-western states and is forecast to hit the mid-Atlantic region.
About 1400 flights were cancelled on Tuesday there, mostly affecting Chicago.
Another 1000 were cancelled on Wednesday, mainly in the Washington area which is expected to see the heaviest snowfall.
The National Weather Service says 15 30cm of snow is expected in the capital.
The federal government has ordered 375,000 employees in the Washington area to stay home.
The BBC reports the storm began in Montana and is moving east. Schools are closed in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois.
