Imposter caught in Vatican

12:07 pm on 5 March 2013

A man disguised as a Catholic cleric has managed to sneak into a closed-door meeting in the Vatican where church leaders are beginning preliminary discussions about who might be the next Pope.

He was discovered as he mingled among more than 100 cardinals and was escorted out.

Vatican guards apparently became suspicious because the impostor had a purple scarf around his waist rather than the red sash worn by senior Catholic clerics.
