High danger rating in Victoria

10:59 am on 24 January 2013

The fire danger rating in Victoria is very high across the state on Thursday. Another day and night of danger is expected.

The Country Fire Authority is warning that forecast hot and windy conditions will intensify two fires burning in the east of the state.

A watch and act alert has been issued for residents of Harrietville and Hotham Heights for a fire burning near Mount Feathertop.

Another large blaze burning in Gippsland could also threaten communities stretching from Glengarry through to Maffra.

The ABC reports a total fire ban is in force in the south-west of the state, where firefighters are worried about the potential for grassfires.
