Wild weather has caused widespread power outages across Adelaide and in country regions of South Australia.

On Monday night, SA Power Networks said more than 43,000 homes were without electricity across the state.

Many areas will remain without power well into Tuesday afternoon.

Kangaroo Island and Adelaide's western suburbs are presently among the worst-affected areas.

The ABC reports there have been more than 100,000 lightning strikes since Sunday.

The Country Fire Service says there were more than 50 blazes throughout Monday. Several fires are still burning.
