The head of the Catholic Church in England has written to the Vatican to ask whether it is possible to strip the late BBC presenter Jimmy Savile of a papal knighthood because of his role in a sex scandal.
Savile, a former DJ who was one of the BBC's top presenters, is accused of sexually abusing young girls for decades. On Thursday, police said some 300 men and women have come forward.
Savile died last year aged 84. He was given a papal knighthood by the late Pope John Paul II in 1990 for his charity work.
The accusations against Savile were first reported on ITV.
Archbishop of Westminster Vincent Nichols wrote to the Vatican last week.
