Eight people, including former News of the World editor Rebekah Brooks and the Prime Minister's former media chief, are to be charged with phone-hacking offences in the United Kingdom.
Prosecutors say Ms Brooks and Andy Coulson will be charged with offences including allegedly hacking into murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler's phone messages.
Both edited the News of the World newspaper, a Sunday tabloid that was forced to close last July amid public revulsion after the phone-hacking between 2000 - 2006 was revealed.
Mr Coulson was David Cameron's communications chief from 2007 until the beginning of last year.
Six other senior former News of the World journalists and staff are also to be charged.
The maximum sentence for the phone-hacking charges is two years in prison and/or a fine.
