Archaeologists in Britain say a study of Stonehenge has finally discovered its true purpose.
Theorists have suggested a range of reasons why the structure was built more than 4000 years ago, including a prehistoric observatory, a sun temple, a place of healing, and a temple of the ancient druids.
However, researchers from five universities have concluded Stonehenge was built as a monument to unify stone-age people in ancient Britain.
They found the stones were erected at the end of a long period of conflict between eastern and western parts of the island and coincided with a growing island-wide culture.
