Protestors injured during sit-in

Dozens of protestors have been injured in Cairo during a sit-in to demonstrate against the barring of a presidential candidate in upcoming Egyptian elections.

A total of 10 candidates have been barred from standing in the poll on 23 to 24 May.

Hundreds of supporters of Hazem Abu Ismail were outside the defence ministry when they were attacked.

The BBC reports the demonstrators have called for reinforcements to come and protect them.

Mr Abu Ismail was banned from standing for president because his late mother had US citizenship.

A run-off election will be held in June between the top two candidates. The ruling military council is due to hand over power on 1 July.
