The Situation
A cold front moves northwards over the North Island today, followed by a cold southwesterly flow. A ridge builds over the South Island on Thursday.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
In the west from Northland to Taranaki
Partly cloudy, with isolated showers clearing this afternoon.
Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty and the central high country
Cloudy periods. A few showers in Taumarunui and Taihape, developing elsewhere this evening. Becoming fine in Coromandel and Bay of Plenty tomorrow.
Gisborne and Hawke's Bay
Showers, becoming isolated this afternoon, clearing Gisborne tomorrow evening.
Whanganui to Wellington and Wairarapa
Showers clearing this afternoon then partly cloudy.
Marlborough, Nelson, Buller and Westland
Scattered showers, mainly inland from afternoon. Becoming fine tomorrow morning, but cloudy periods remain in Westland.
Canterbury
Isolated showers becoming confined inland this afternoon and fine spells increasing elsewhere. Becoming cloudy tomorrow and showers becoming widespread in the evening.
Otago, Southland and Fiordland
Cloudy periods. Isolated showers about the south coast.
Chatham Islands
Cloudy with a few showers.

Friday
North Island: Mainly fine, but scattered showers in the east. South Island: Mainly fine. A few showers in the east, clearing.
Saturday
North Island: Mainly fine, but isolated showers. South Island: Mainly fine in the east, but isolated showers in Otago and Southland. Rain developing in the west, becoming heavy later.
Sunday
North Island: Rain developing in the west, possibly heavy about Taranaki, central North Island areas and Tararua Range. Only scattered falls in the east. South Island: Heavy rain in the west, easing later. Occasional rain developing elsewhere.
And at the Chathams
Remaining showers clearing Friday morning, then mainly fine. Scattered rain developing late Sunday. Southwesterlies dying out on Saturday, then strong northerlies developing on Sunday.
