Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Thursday
The Situation
A ridge of high pressure covers most of New Zealand today and tomorrow, but troughs embedded in the easterly flow will bring showers to the northern half of the North Island.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland, Auckland and Coromandel
Showers, some heavy with possible thunderstorms and hail today, easing this evening.
Bay of Plenty, Waikato and Waitomo
Scattered showers, mainly in the afternoons and evenings. Some heavy and possibly thundery with small hail today.
Taranaki and the central high country
Partly cloudy. Scattered showers, this afternoon and evening.
Gisborne
Cloudy periods and a few showers.
Whanganui to Wellington, including Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa
Mainly fine, apart from areas of fog tomorrow morning.
Grey, Westland, Fiordland and Stewart Island
Areas of cloud. Isolated showers, becoming confined to Fiordland and Stewart Island today.
Remainder of the South Island
Generally fine. Areas of low cloud or fog about Canterbury, extending to the Kaikoura Coast tomorrow.
Chatham Islands
Cloudy, with a few showers developing towards tomorrow evening.

Tuesday
North Island: A few showers north of Tauranga, and also about Gisborne. Fine elsewhere. South Island: A few showers for Fiordland, otherwise mainly fine.
Wednesday
North Island: Showers increasing in Gisborne and Hawke's Bay, but clearing in the north. Fine elsewhere. South Island: Rain setting in for Fiordland and southern Westland, with some heavy falls. Mainly fine elsewhere, apart from isolated showers in the south.
Thursday
North Island: Showers in the east clearing, then scattered showers developing in the west becoming heavier later. South Island: Rain with heavy falls in the west. Isolated showers elsewhere.
Friday
North Island: Showers, some heavy in the west, easing later. South Island: Rain with heavy falls in the west, easing. Elsewhere, scattered showers spreading north.
And at the Chathams
Partly cloudy with the odd shower. Showers increasing for a time later Thursday and again Friday. Westerlies, turning northerly later Tuesday and strengthening. Strong northeasterlies turning northwest on Thursday, then gradually easing Friday.
