The Situation
A ridge of high pressure dominates Aotearoa/New Zealand today, then weakens tomorrow as a low over the Tasman Sea and its associated warm front move over central New Zealand.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland to Taranaki, including Taupo, Taihape, Bay of Plenty, Hawke's Bay and Gisborne
Mainly fine. Isolated afternoon and evening showers, especially inland and about the ranges.
Taranaki to Wellington, including Wairarapa, also Marlborough and Nelson
Mainly fine today. Cloudy tomorrow, with isolated showers but rain south of Horowhenua Kapiti Coast, possibly heavy in Nelson and Marlborough from the evening.
Buller, Grey and Westland
Cloud increasing. Isolated showers this afternoon. Rain developing tomorrow in Buller and Grey, with some heavy falls possible from the evening.
Canterbury, North Otago, Central Otago and Dunedin
Mainly fine. Cloudy periods with isolated showers developing in the afternoon and evening. A few showers about the Canterbury coast for a time in the morning.
Southland, Fiordland and Clutha
Mostly cloudy with a few coastal showers. Isolated afternoon or evening showers inland in Southland tomorrow.
Chatham Islands
Mainly fine today. Rain developing for a time tomorrow.

Thursday
North Island: Showers becoming widespread and possibly heavy and thundery for a time in the afternoon and evening. South Island: Rain in the north and east, possibly heavy. Isolated showers elsewhere.
Friday
North Island: Showers for most, but only isolated falls from Gisborne to Wairarapa. South Island: Rain in the east with heavy falls, easing. Scattered showers elsewhere, mainly inland.
Saturday
North Island: Mainly fine, but a few showers for Wellington and Wairarapa. Isolated afternoon or evening showers about the ranges elsewhere. South Island: Mainly fine in the west. Cloudy periods with scattered showers elsewhere, mainly inland.
And at the Chathams
Periods of rain developing on Thursday, possibly heavy for a time on Friday, then easing to showers Friday evening. Northerlies turning easterly for a time on Thursday, strengthening on Friday, then changing to strong southerlies late Saturday.
