Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Saturday
The Situation
A front over the South Island weakens as it moves northwards across the North Island today, followed by a ridge of high pressure. Tomorrow, the high pressure eases over the lower South Island and another front approaches the far south late in the day.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland to Taranaki, including Taumarunui, Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and Taupo
Mainly fine. Areas of morning cloud or fog. Isolated showers about Coromandel and Northland from tomorrow morning.
Gisborne and Hawke's Bay
Cloud increasing. Isolated showers developing about Hawke's Bay this evening. Becoming fine tomorrow morning.
Taihape and Manawatu, also Marlborough, Nelson, Canterbury and Otago
Cloudy periods. Isolated showers north of Kaikoura. Becoming fine tonight.
Horowhenua Kapiti Coast, Wellington and Wairarapa
Partly cloudy today. Fine tomorrow, but clouding over late.
Buller and Grey
Scattered showers, clearing this afternoon with increasing fine spells, but returning late tomorrow.
Westland
Cloudy periods. Isolated showers clearing tomorrow morning but further showers spreading north from afternoon.
Southland and Fiordland
Fine today. Showers developing in Fiordland tomorrow morning then spreading elsewhere and turning to rain in the evening.
Chatham Islands
Mainly fine. A few showers tonight and tomorrow morning.

Thursday
North Island: Fine in the east. Cloudy periods and a few showers elsewhere. South Island: Rain spreading north, possibly heavy, clearing in the south late.
Friday
North Island: Scattered rain or showers in the south and east. Partly cloudy elsewhere with a shower or two. South Island: Occasional showers, but some longer fine spells in the south and west.
Saturday
North Island: Scattered rain developing about and north of the central high country. Isolated showers in the south. South Island: Mainly fine in the east. A few showers elsewhere.
And at the Chathams
Fine for much of Thursday, but cloud increasing late, then showers on Friday. Mainly fine on Saturday. Northerlies developing on Thursday and turning southerly on Friday. Southerlies dying out on Saturday.
