Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Tuesday

The Situation

A front moves northwards up the country today, followed by a showery westerly flow. On Saturday another front embedded in the westerly flow crosses the country.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

Northland, Auckland, Coromandel and Bay of Plenty

Fine apart from some evening showers today. Showers returning for a time during the day tomorrow.

Waikato to Wellington, including the central high country

Rain spreading north this afternoon, then easing to isolated showers in the evening. Showers increasing for a time tomorrow.

Gisborne to Wairarapa

Mainly fine, with the odd afternoon or evening shower in Wairarapa today, and elsewhere tomorrow.

Nelson and Marlborough

Partly cloudy with a few afternoon or evening showers.

Buller to Fiordland

Showers, some heavy, easing for a time tomorrow morning. Thunderstorms possible today.

Canterbury

Occasional showers today. Mainly fine tomorrow.

Otago and Southland

Showers, with possible thunderstorms about the east coast this afternoon. Mainly fine tomorrow with high cloud.

Chatham Islands

Occasional showers this afternoon and tomorrow morning, otherwise fine.

And the outlook for the following three days...

Sunday

North Island: Cloudy periods and a few showers, but mainly fine and dry in the east. South Island: Showers in the west and south, turning to rain, possibly heavy. Mainly fine elsewhere.

Monday

North Island: Rain spreading north early, easing to isolated showers later. South Island: Showers in the west clearing, but a few showers remaining about Fiordland. Scattered showers elsewhere, clearing later.

Tuesday

North Island: Rain in the far north. Mainly fine elsewhere. South Island: Showers in the west and the south. Fine elsewhere.

And at the Chathams

Becoming cloudy with evening drizzle on Sunday. A brief period of late rain on Monday, otherwise mainly fine. Northerlies developing on Sunday, turning lighter southwesterly on Monday and for a time early Tuesday.
