Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Tuesday
A broad trough of low pressure moves off most of the country today, finally clearing the upper North Island early tomorrow. A slim ridge of high pressure is spreading over Aotearoa during Saturday.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland to Taranaki, including Coromandel, Bay of Plenty, and the Central High Country
Rain, possibly heavy, turning to scattered showers in the west this afternoon, and elsewhere at night, but clearing Bay of Plenty. Isolated thunderstorms about Northland until early morning.
Whanganui to Kapiti
Patchy rain clearing this afternoon, then fine apart from isolated showers.
A few showers, clearing tomorrow morning.
Gisborne to Wairarapa
Scattered rain today. A few showers tomorrow, clearing afternoon.
Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury and Otago apart from Clutha
Becoming fine. Isolated showers until early morning.
Clutha and Southland
A few showers, retreating to the coast overnight.
Buller to Fiordland
Isolated showers until evening. Scattered showers returning to Fiordland tomorrow morning, spreading elsewhere in the afternoon.
Rain from evening, possibly heavy, easing to the odd shower later tomorrow.
And the outlook for the following three days...
North Island, isolated showers in the west, becoming more widespread from Waitomo to Horowhenua Kapiti Coast later. Fine elsewhere. South Island, rain in west, with heavier falls in Fiordland.Scattered rain spreading into Otago and Southland, fine elsewhere.
North Island, brief showers then fine spells in Northland to Bay of Plenty. Rain easing to showers elsewhere in the west and south. Fine in Gisborne and Hawkes Bay. South Island, rain easing to showers in the west and south and gradually clearing in Westland and inland Otago. Showers spreading north into Canterbury and Marlborough.
North Island, a few showers south of Taihape clearing during the day, fine elsewhere. South Island, fine or becoming fine, apart from showers in Fiordland and coastal Southland.
And at the Chathams
A few showers on Sunday with strong southwesterlies easing. Rain developing on Monday, easing to showers on Tuesday with winds becoming strong southwesterly.
