Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Wednesday

The Situation

A southwest flow weakens today as a ridge of high pressure spreads over most of New Zealand. The ridge lies across most of the country tomorrow, while a trough and a front move east past the far south of the South Island.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

Northland

Fine spells and the odd shower, mainly in the east.

Auckland to Taumarunui, also Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and the central high country

Mainly fine today, but isolated showers this afternoon and evening. Areas of cloud tomorrow morning, with patchy drizzle about the high country, then fine spells.

Gisborne to Wairarapa

Cloudy periods today. Fine tomorrow.

Taranaki to Wellington, also Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury

Fine and cloudy periods. Isolated showers about Taranaki tomorrow.

Buller to Westland

Fine spells, with a possible shower tomorrow morning.

Otago and Southland

Generally fine today. Cloudy periods tomorrow, with scattered rain spreading from the west during the morning and afternoon.

Fiordland and Stewart Island

Mostly cloudy with isolated showers, turning to rain for a time tomorrow.

Chatham Islands

Cloudy periods and a few showers.

And the outlook for the following three days...

Monday

North Island: Mostly fine with some areas of cloud morning and evening. South Island: Cloudy periods in the west with a few showers for Fiordland. Mainly fine elsewhere.

Tuesday

North Island: Partly cloudy in the west and north, with a possible shower. Mainly fine elsewhere. South Island: Scattered showers in the far south, possibly spreading to Westland and Canterbury later. Mainly fine elsewhere.

Wednesday

North Island: Mostly fine. South Island: Partly cloudy in the west with a few showers, mainly in Fiordland. Fine or becoming fine elsewhere.

And at the Chathams

Fine and cloudy periods, with a few showers developing late Tuesday, clearing Wednesday. Southwesterlies turning northwest early Tuesday, then changing strong southwest late Tuesday and easing Wednesday.
