Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Wednesday

The Situation

A slow moving ridge of high pressure lies over the North Island, while fronts embedded in a northwest flow affect the South Island. Tomorrow, another front preceded by a strong moist northwesterly flow moves northeast over the South Island and onto central New Zealand.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

Northland, Auckland, Coromandel, Bay of Plenty, and Gisborne to Wairarapa

Mainly fine and warm.

Waikato to Wellington, including the central high country

Cloudy periods. A few showers about the Tararua Range, spreading elsewhere tomorrow evening.

Nelson and Marlborough

Mainly fine. Rain developing later tomorrow.

Buller and Grey

Scattered showers today. Rain tomorrow, possibly heavy and thunder.

Westland and Fiordland

Rain with some heavy falls, turning to showers in Fiordland tomorrow morning. Thunderstorms possible in Fiordland this evening and everywhere tomorrow.

Canterbury

Mainly fine and warm. Rain or showers spreading north tomorrow with possible thunderstorms about the High Country.

Otago and Southland

Periods of rain, clearing this afternoon or evening. Showers returning tomorrow, some possibly heavy.

Chatham Islands

Cloudy periods, with a few showers this evening. Fine tomorrow.

And the outlook for the following three days...

Monday

North Island: Rain spreads north, then clears in the west and south later, easing to a few showers elsewhere. South Island: Rain in the north and east, clearing early. Scattered showers elsewhere becoming confined to Fiordland and the far south.

Tuesday

North Island: Partly cloudy. A few showers about Bay of Plenty and Gisborne, with isolated showers developing about the central high country later. South Island: Showers about Fiordland and the south coast. Partly cloudy elsewhere, with isolated showers developing.

Wednesday

North Island: Scattered showers, but mainly fine in Wellington and Wairarapa. South Island: A few showers, more widespread in the south.

And at the Chathams

Morning rain easing to showers on Monday. A few showers clearing on Tuesday, then returning later Wednesday. Strong northwesterlies turning southwest early Monday then easing Tuesday. Turning northerly late Tuesday, then changing southwest late Wednesday.
