The Situation
A ridge of high pressure dominates over Aotearoa/New Zealand today and tomorrow. However, a weakening front moves north up the upper North Island today while another front brushes the far south.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland to Waitomo
A few showers spreading north this afternoon, clearing this evening but returning for Northland tomorrow afternoon.
Bay of Plenty and Taupo
Showers, clearing this evening but returning tomorrow morning, possibly heavy in the east tomorrow evening.
Gisborne and Hawke's Bay
Partly cloudy. Showers, possibly heavy about Gisborne, clearing this evening. Isolated showers north of Tolaga Bay tomorrow evening.
Taranaki to Wellington, also Taumarunui, Taihape, Wairarapa and Nelson to Marlborough
Mainly fine. One or two showers about the Kaikoura Coast this afternoon.
Buller, Grey and Westland
Partly cloudy. Isolated showers about the Westland ranges, extending everywhere tomorrow evening.
Canterbury and Otago
Partly cloudy with isolated showers during the afternoons and evenings.
Southland and Fiordland
Mostly cloudy with isolated showers, more persistent about the coast.
Chatham Islands
A few showers, clearing to fine tomorrow.

Wednesday
North Island: Scattered showers for most but rain for a time from Whanganui to Wellington. South Island: A few showers, more widespread in the south. Late rain for Buller to Marlborough.
Thursday
North Island: Showers becoming widespread and possibly heavy for a time in the afternoon and evening. South Island: Rain in the north and east, possibly heavy. Isolated showers elsewhere.
Friday
North Island: Showers for most, but only isolated falls from Gisborne to Wairarapa. South Island: Rain in the east with heavy falls, easing. Showers elsewhere, mainly inland.
And at the Chathams
Partly cloudy. A few showers Wednesday afternoon and evening. Periods of rain developing late Thursday. Strong northerlies turning lighter westerly Wednesday afternoon, dying out late Wednesday. Easterlies developing Thursday, turning northerly on Friday.
