Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Sunday
The Situation
A ridge covers most of New Zealand today. A low with strong to gale southeasterlies moves southeast across Bay of Plenty, and a strong northwest flow builds over Fiordland. On Thursday, the low moves away to the southeast, while a front moves northwards over the South Island.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland, Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula
Cloudy and isolated showers clearing this evening. Fine at first tomorrow, but cloud increasing and rain developing in the evening.
Bay of Plenty, Gisborne and Hawke's Bay
A few showers, but rain north of Gisborne City, possibly heavy about northern Gisborne until evening. Mainly fine with a few evening showers tomorrow.
Waikato to Wellington including the central High Country, also Wairarapa
Mostly fine. Isolated showers about Waikato and Taupo clearing this afternoon. Cloud increasing and showers developing tomorrow afternoon, turning to evening rain.
Nelson, Grey, Buller, Westland
Mainly fine today. Rain spreading north tomorrow, heavy at times and possibly thundery.
Fiordland
A few showers turning to rain this evening, with heavy falls.
Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago and Southland
Cloud spreading north today. Scattered rain tomorrow, clearing from the south later.
Chatham Islands
Cloudy periods. A few showers developing tomorrow afternoon.

Friday
North Island: Rain or showers, some heavy in the west, easing in the north later, mainly dry in the east. South Island: Rain with heavy falls in the west, easing to showers late. Elsewhere, isolated showers.
Saturday
North Island: Rain spreading from the west, but mainly dry in the east. South Island: Showers in the west, turning to rain with some heavy falls, and spreading to Southland and Otago later. Mainly dry elsewhere.
Sunday
North Island: Rain, easing in the north and east later. South Island: Rain in the north and east easing. Showers elsewhere, possibly heavy.
And at the Chathams
A few showers, turning to rain for a time early Friday, then clearing on Saturday. Showers redeveloping on Sunday and turning to rain later. Northerlies turning westerly on Friday, then turning northerly again late Saturday. Changing gale southerly late Sunday.
