Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Tuesday
The Situation
A slow moving ridge of high pressure lies over the North Island, while a weakening front over the South Island moves onto central New Zealand today. The ridge over the North Island persists tomorrow while fronts embedded in a northwest flow affect the South Island.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland, Auckland, Coromandel and Bay of Plenty
Mainly fine, apart from some morning cloud.
Gisborne, Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa
Fine and warm.
Waikato to Wellington, including the central high country
Partly cloudy. Isolated light showers developing today, becoming confined to the ranges tomorrow.
Buller and Grey
Occasional rain or showers, possibly heavy today.
Nelson and Marlborough
Partly cloudy. Isolated showers about Marlborough later today and Nelson tomorrow.
Westland and Fiordland
Scattered showers today, rain with some heavy falls tomorrow. Thunderstorms also possible from tomorrow evening.
Canterbury
Cloud and isolated showers spreading north today. Scattered rain tomorrow morning, then fine and warm.
Otago and Southland
Isolated showers today. Periods of rain tomorrow, clearing in the afternoon in the afternoon.
Chatham Islands
Cloudy periods. A few showers tomorrow evening.

Sunday
North Island: Cloudy periods with isolated showers in the west, mainly fine elsewhere. South Island: Rain spreading north, with heavy falls mainly in the west. Easing to showers in the south later.
Monday
North Island: Rain spreads north, then clears in the west and south late, easing to a few showers elsewhere. South Island: Rain in the north and east, clearing early. Scattered showers elsewhere becoming confined to Fiordland and the far south.
Tuesday
North Island: Partly cloudy. A few showers about Bay of Plenty and Gisborne, with isolated showers developing about Northland later. South Island: Showers about Fiordland and the south coast. Partly cloudy elsewhere, with isolated showers developing.
And at the Chathams
Fine on Sunday. A period of rain on Monday, then a few showers which clear to fine on Tuesday. Strong northwesterlies developing Sunday, turning southwest early Monday then easing Tuesday.
