The Situation
A ridge of high pressure slowly moves east of the country today, directing a northerly to northeasterly flow over much of the country. Winds strengthen tomorrow as a couple of fronts move east onto New Zealand from the Tasman Sea, bringing rain in the north and west.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland and Coromandel
Partly cloudy with isolated showers today. Becoming cloudy tomorrow, and showers turning to rain in Northland in the evening.
Auckland to Taranaki, including Taupo and Bay of Plenty
Mostly fine today. Cloud increasing tomorrow, with isolated showers about Auckland, Bay of Plenty and Taupo later.
Whanganui to Wellington, and Gisborne to Wairarapa, also Marlborough
Mostly fine. Becoming cloudy about Marlborough later tomorrow.
Nelson, Buller and Grey
Mostly cloudy, with isolated showers. Showers becoming widespread late tomorrow night.
Canterbury, Otago and Southland
Fine with high cloud, but cloudy with occasional rain about Stewart Island.
Westland and Fiordland
Mostly cloudy, with isolated showers. Showers turning to rain in Fiordland this evening, and in Westland later tomorrow.
Chatham Islands
Fine weather.
And the outlook for the following three days...
Tuesday
North Island: Rain spreading east, with some heavy falls. South Island: Rain, heavy at times in the west and north, with scattered falls elsewhere.
Wednesday
North Island: Rain with some heavy falls, easing to scattered showers early. Showers clearing in the east later. South Island: Rain in the west and south. Scattered showers elsewhere, clearing from Marlborough and North Canterbury later.
Thursday
North Island: Showers in the north and west, turning to rain in the north later. Scattered showers developing elsewhere. South Island: Scattered showers, clearing in the west late.
Friday
North Island: Rain for the most, with some heavy falls about Gisborne and Hawke's Bay, easing to isolated showers in the north and west later, South Island: Mainly fine in the west, isolated showers elsewhere.
And at the Chathams
Cloud increasing Tuesday. Rain developing Wednesday, then easing to a few showers Thursday. Northerlies rising to gale Wednesday, but easing Thursday.
