Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Wednesday

The Situation

A weak low pressure system affects northern parts of the North Island today and tomorrow, while a ridge of high pressure builds over the South Island and extends into the lower North Island.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

Northland

Fine spells and isolated showers, clearing in the west and north tomorrow.

Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula

Scattered showers, some heavy in Coromandel Peninsula tonight and tomorrow morning, and in Auckland tomorrow afternoon.

Waikato to Wellington, including the central high country, also Bay of Plenty

Fine with morning frosts inland. A few cloudy periods from Waikato to Taranaki tomorrow.

Gisborne to Wairarapa

Cloudy periods and isolated showers north of Wairoa. Elsewhere, fine apart from the odd shower along the Wairarapa coast today, and morning frosts inland.

Nelson, Marlborough, Buller, Grey and Westland

Fine with morning frosts.

Canterbury and Otago

Fine with morning frosts. However, low cloud or fog persisting about inland valleys.

Fiordland and Southland

Partly cloudy, with isolated showers about the coasts, clearing tomorrow. Fine with morning frost inland.

Chatham Islands

Fine spells and a few showers.

And the outlook for the following three days...

Monday

North Island: Showers in the east and north, some possibly heavy in the north. Isolated showers elsewhere. South Island: Fine, apart from isolated showers about the Kaikoura coasts.

Tuesday

North Island: Showers in the east and north. Mainly fine elsewhere. South Island: Fine, apart from isolated showers about the Fiordland coasts.

Wednesday

North Island: Fine. South Island: Fine, apart from showers developing in Fiordland in the evening.

And at the Chathams

A few showers. Southerlies, turning southwest on Monday, then dying out for a time on Tuesday.
