Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Tuesday

The Situation

A cold front over southern New Zealand, becomes slow-moving over the central South Island tomorrow. A low over the Tasman Sea is expected to cross the North Island tomorrow.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

Northland, Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula

A few showers, some heavy, with possible thunderstorms this afternoon. Rain tomorrow with some heavy falls and possible thunderstorms, easing around evening.

Waikato, Waitomo, Taumarunui, Taupo and Bay of Plenty

Fine spells and isolated showers today. Rain developing early tomorrow, some heavy with possible thunderstorms, easing later.

Taranaki, Taihape

Cloudy periods with isolated showers.

Gisborne, Hawke's Bay

Mainly fine today. Rain developing tomorrow.

Whanganui to Wellington, also Wairarapa

Partly cloudy today. Cloud increasing tomorrow, isolated showers developing from afternoon.

Marlborough, Nelson, Buller, Westland, Canterbury and Otago

Partly cloudy. Isolated showers in Westland clearing tonight. Patchy rain developing in Otago and Canterbury this afternoon, clearing overnight tonight.

Fiordland, Southland

Rain, briefly heavy, easing to isolated showers this afternoon, clearing tonight. Rain developing tomorrow night, mainly about the coast.

Chatham Islands

Cloudy periods.

And the outlook for the following three days...

Sunday

North Island: A few early showers about the northern half of the island, clearing for most but persisting about Gisborne. Mainly fine in the south. South Island: Rain in Fiordland, and a few showers up the West Coast and about Southland. Fine elsewhere.

Monday

North Island: Isolated showers spreading northwards during the day, clearing to fine afterwards. South Island: Early showers in the west and about the Southland, clearing. Mainly fine elsewhere.

Tuesday

Rain developing about Fiordland, and later in the day about Westland. A mainly fine for the rest of the country.

And at the Chathams

Fresh southerlies and isolated showers on Sunday. Rain developing on Monday with a strong southwest change. A few showers clearing early Tuesday to mainly fine weather, and strong southwesterlies easing to lighter westerlies.
