The Situation

A building ridge of high pressure dominates over New Zealand/Aotearoa today and tomorrow while a number of weak fronts move up the east coast.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

Northland, Auckland and Coromandel

Partly cloudy. Isolated showers for Coromandel this evening, Auckland overnight and Northland from tomorrow morning.

Waikato to Wellington including Bay of Plenty and the central high country

Areas of cloud, becoming fine this afternoon.

Gisborne to Wairarapa

Isolated showers about Wairarapa, spreading north this afternoon, then clearing Wairarapa this evening and Hawke's Bay tomorrow afternoon.

Marlborough, Nelson and Buller

Partly cloudy. Isolated showers inland from this afternoon.

The Grey District, Westland and Fiordland

Partly cloudy. Isolated showers about the ranges and Fiordland today and about the ranges tomorrow afternoon and evening.

Canterbury and Otago

Mainly fine, isolated light showers about the south Canterbury coast tomorrow morning.

Southland

Mostly cloudy. A few showers, clearing this evening, becoming fine tomorrow.

Chatham Islands

Periods of rain, clearing this afternoon. A few showers tomorrow morning.

Sunday

North Island: Mainly fine, but isolated showers north of the central plateau. South Island: Mainly fine, but cloud increasing in the south, with showers about Fiordland from evening.

Monday

North Island: Fine in the east and south. Partly cloudy with isolated showers in the north and west. South Island: Rain with heavy falls developing in the west and south. Partly cloudy in the north and east.

Tuesday

North Island: Rain with heavy falls developing in the west. Fine for Gisborne and Hawke's Bay. Partly cloudy with isolated showers elsewhere. South Island: Rain in the north and west, with heavy falls, clearing. Partly cloudy elsewhere with showers.

Partly cloudy on Sunday and Monday, becoming fine on Tuesday. Southwesterlies, dying out on Sunday. Northerlies developing early Monday, becoming strong later Tuesday.
