Verse Chorus Verse: STONEYHUNGA - SWIDT

12:21 pm on 28 July 2017

Spycc and INF give us a track-by-track breakdown of the SWIDT crew's debut album.

‘The Bus Depot’ (Intro)

If you've ever caught a bus with the homies, you know at least one of them needs to be clicked on. The (Onehunga) bus depot was where we start. Welcome to STONEYHUNGA. Jump on the bus and let us take you on a journey thru heaven. Keep that fuckin' dog on a leash. There's kids around here. - INF

‘Alfred & Church’

Being the first song on the album, we had to really set the scene, the time, the tone & the location. Through references of things/experiences of our childhood to things/experiences of our teenage years, we delivered that. You play this joint and you instantly time travel back to Onehunga mid-2000s. - Spycc

‘Little Did She Know’

This song is about our youth. Young teens telling white lies to our mothers like “Ma I'm just goin to one of the boys' house to play some games …” BUT REALLY - House party in central somewhere.

At some point in a teenagers life, there's that phase of “Damn, can't let Mum or Dad know about this.” It's all about protecting your family.

Everything down to the bass line is disobedient. - INF

‘Close One’

I think everyone has been in a situation/or situations where things could of went left, but they didn't and when you look back at it now, all you can do is laugh. I wrote the hook to this song in about 10 mins while I was driving to the studio. I think the best songs are always the ones that create themselves.

Shout out to CJ Fly too, was dope hearing his story on this joint . He killed it. - Spycc

‘Tonight’

Tonight, well ... The hook speaks for itself. It's a seductive tune, what more can I say. If you watch the video for this and learn the dance moves, you'll increase your potential in finding a female counterpart by 312 percent. - INF

‘Mee Waas’

Mee Waas was an infamous takeaway joint located at the bus depot in Onehunga. They used to have a gang of arcade machines there and there was tagging everywhere. It was def the spot to hit after school while you were waiting for your bus. A lot of shit used to go down there, it was definitely an iconic part of modern Onehunga history.

Even though this is just a skit, you never know, you might get to hear the actual song someday. - Spycc

‘Player of The Day’

Winning. This is all about being the best at what you do. We all wanna be champions, we all wanna succeed. This is the anthem for pre- and post- game hype. Let this song provide you with the energy of the gods, my G. - INF

‘Ric Flair (Wooo!)’

Not only was Ric Flair one of our fav wrestlers growing up but he just had that bulletproof confidence and the most flair. This song is very “I'm The Man-esque” and it’s just about us relaying how much we have in common with the man.

If you google the definition of “flamboyant”, Ric Flair comes up. If you google “The Most Electrifying Rap Group in Entertainment', SWIDT comes up. Run your Googles, my G. - Spycc

‘Kelz Garage’ (Interlude)

Shout out to the homie Kelz, one time. Kelz hosts drinks in his garage from time to time and this is exactly how it goes down. It's 100 percent Kiwi. We all have a garage, and if you don't, you're drinking in your homies garage til' the early morn. - INF

‘All Night’

This song is about them early clubbing days & the missions you'd go on w/ ya bros to get to town. The classic line from the bouncers back then was 'too casual bro' lmao. - Spycc

‘Out the Gate’

You know when you've surpassed your normal state of mind and you are a much more extremely enthusiastic version of yourself? Yeah. Out the gate. Hostile. This Tae Beast production has me yelling out the window on K Road. - INF

‘Mine’

This is probably my favourite song on the album. Firstly, you got INF goin' falsetto on the hook. No auto-tune. Then you got me murking the verse. Then you got Smokey's production fused with Yoko-Zuna's live instrumentation. Enough said.

We recorded this song at Roundhead on our second-to-last session there. The vibes were crazy. - Spycc

‘R.I.P Shirt’

Rap is a competitive sport. We're competitive. We believe we are the best. It's part of the culture to boast with your skills and techniques, and plus, we're killing the game right now. In loving memory of ________, R.I.P. - INF

‘The Parrys’

This is a skit about gettin' stoney and then being paranoid as fuck. Boomer killed it. Smokey killed it. Low key tho, Smokey needs to leave the rap game and make that transition into the world of Foley. Never seen him be so enthusiastic bout working on a track before. - Spycc

‘Every Weekend’

No responsibilities. No ties to anything. No commitments. Of course every weekend we're going back-to-back-to-back. We're young, wild and we're on that rebel shit. You definitely need to play this at max volume. That chopped and screwed outro of the song is nasty g. Shout out DJ Screw, R.I.P. - INF

‘Condolences’

Whenever one of your homies loved ones passed away, the “Sorry about your loss G” conversation was always had. This is that in a nutshell. - Spycc

‘Before Tears Dry’

I'm sure nearly everybody has experienced losing a loved one in their life. Hearing the piano tip-toe across my emotions definitely triggered a soft spot. I wrote my verse about my Dad, and Spycc has spoken on the passing of his Nan. This our letters to them as they look down on us. - INF
