Kick Out The Jams: NZ Psych Fest 2015

9:51 am on 11 December 2015

Interviews and live sets from the New Zealand music underground. This week, we head to Auckland to check out NZ Psych Fest 2015.

Last weekend, Auckland played host to 17 bands as part of New Zealand Psych Fest 2015. Organiser Zac Arnold says it was his involvement with four-piece act Sere that played a big part in wanting to organise an event that brings together this growing community of musicians influenced by the mind-altering possibilities of psych music.

Spanning a broad definition of what constitutes psychedelic music, the two-night/one-afternoon event brought together acts ranging from the more traditional psych rock, to bands with a heavier sludge/doom sound, to modular synth composers, a psych hip-hop crossover act and a Darwinian Krautrock band.

Featured at NZ Psych Fest 2015 were:

Badd Energy, Bespin, BOZO, Death and the Maiden, Evil Ocean, Greenfog,Invisible Threads, NIISA, Opposite Sex, Power Nap, Purple Pilgrims, sereSurf Friends, Te Huhu, Totems, Westley Holdsworth, Zen Mantra.
