GIF It Up is a competition that aims to bring new life to old pictures.
Originally a partnership between Digital NZ and the Digital Public Library of America, Europe’s Europeana and Australia’s Trove joined in this year.
Entrants created GIFs from copyright-free images and video from the digital libraries’ collections, with 147 entries coming in from all over the world.
The competition was judged by Imgur director of community Sarah Schaaf, Slate.com history writer Rebecca Onion, Okkult Motion Pictures' Alessandro Scali and Marco Calabrese, and The Pencilsword creator Toby Morris.
The winners, all made under Creative Commons license, were announced today.
SUPREME AND PEOPLE'S CHOICE WINNER
"I love how this GIF brings a modern twist to Creation of Adam," judge Sarah Schaff wrote about this GIF by Tobias Rothe, who hails from Amstelveen, the Netherlands.
