CHI to AKL: In Memory of DJ Rashad: This weekend marks one year since the death of Chicago footwork pioneer and TEKLIFE founder DJ Rashad and Auckland venue Neck of the Woods are hosting a showcase to celebrate his influence. Get there early for a screening of I’m Tryna Tell Ya before sets from Addison Chase, Average White DJ, HopeOne, Issa, JRed, Ma Bec, Milo B, PIMMS, Riot, Scott Detail, Steezie Wonder and Trendy. It’s $5 before 10pm and $10 after, with all profits going to DJ Rashad’s family.
Misfit Mod, Little Phnx and Instant Fantasy: The Softsynth Siren tour, featuring the three aforementioned artists, kicked off this week and there are still shows lined up in Christchurch, Queenstown and Dunedin that take place this Friday-Sunday. Comedy Festival: The NZ International Comedy Festival kicks off tomorrow and runs for the next three weeks across Auckland and Wellington, with a couple of select comedians taking their stand-up nationwide. The Avengers: Opening today is the latest from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Age of Ultron. It’s going to dominate the global box office, even if reviews have already called it “disappointing”. If the trailer is anything to go by, expect beautiful people blowing things up, special effects, and director Joss Whedon’s signature quip-heavy dialogue.
Hannah In The Wars: Although she’s London-based, New Zealander Hannah Curwood is back in the country for a bunch of shows in support of her new album with her band Hannah In The Wars. The 10-date tour got underway a few days ago and continues with shows in Picton, Nelson and Lyttleton over the next few days. Hungry For Punk: This Saturday sees a huge lineup take the stage at Whammy Bar and Wine Cellar for Hungry For Punk, a massive show with sets from 14 bands. Check out the lineup at find out more over on the Facebook event page, and get in early with presales from Under The Radar.
god bows to math: Auckland-based three-piece rock act god bows to math are midway through a tour of the country in support of their latest album Brighter Futures, and they hit Dunedin tonight and Christchurch on Saturday for shows at Chicks Hotel and the Darkroom respectively. Find out more info on each of the shows here and look out for them back in Auckland and Wellington for gigs in the next week.
