U.S. vice president Al Gore and musician Pharrell Williams have announced details of a series of concerts that will take place across seven continents this June, Reuters reports.

The Live Earth music event is being held to demand action on climate change and will be staged in Paris, New York, Rio de Janeiro, Beijing, Sydney and Cape Town on June 18. Another concert will be held in the Antarctic and played by a band of scientists at a research station, Gore said.

Each concert will run for four to six hours and the public will be urged to take action on climate change ahead of the United Nations’ talks in Paris this December on combatting global warming.

“It is absolutely crucial that we build public will for an agreement,” Gore said.

“The purpose is to have a billion voices with one message, to demand climate action now.”
