Is Unitec’s decision to axe tutors and replace them with ‘industry professionals’ the right thing to do?

Most staff at Unitec’s Design and Visual Arts department expect to be made redundant as a result of a decision to replace tutors with industry professionals.

The Auckland tertiary institute says the move is not motivated by cost-cutting, but will instead provide students with relevant work skills.

Radio New Zealand’s The Arts on Sunday spoke to those behind the move, as well as those opposed to it.
