A tertiary education is no longer enough to guarantee you a job. So what are recruiters looking for when faced with a pile of CVs, and what can you do to make yourself stand out? The Wireless talked to recruiters at some of the best and most desirable workplaces in New Zealand.

Vend – point-of-sale, inventory and customer loyalty software “you will love to use”, servicing 6500 stores in over 100 countries – was named the Best Small Workplace (20 to 49 employees) in last year’s Kenexa Best Workplaces Awards. Part of Vend’s success, says chief executive Vaughan Rowsell, is in its hiring the right people, and then treating them “like adults”: “We want you to be at the top of your game. You can wear whatever clothing you like, start work late in the morning, and play foosball or video games whenever you need a break.”
