The Ministry of Education says it's coming under increasing pressure from iwi and the Government over the Treaty of Waitangi.

In a briefing to Education Minister Hekia Parata, the ministry says issues emerging from the Treaty must be given urgent attention.

It says its current approach leaves the ministry open to a risk of failing to deliver.

The briefing also notes that the ministry is involved with about 30 Treaty claim, including an urgent Waitangi Tribunal hearing for the Kohanga Reo National Trust Board later this month.

The Kohanga Reo board claims it's being forced to adopt a mainstream model that threatens the kaupapa Maori values it's based on.
