Ngapuhi CEO confident of festival's success

Ngapuhi's chief executive is confident the tribe's annual festival, which starts on Saturday at Northland High School in Kaikohe, will be a great success.

George Riley says the festival, which the organisers expect will attract more than 40,000 people, goes from strength to strength each year, though he says there's always room for improvement.

Mr Riley says there were some events the iwi would like to extend, but it's been difficult this year securing the same level of funding support compared with previous years.

He says as well as the festival providing a great range of entertainment and formal discussions for visitors, it gives marae and whanau groups the chance to raise funds for themselves.

Mr Riley says musical highlights over the weekend will be Ruia Aperahama, the reuniting on stage of Herbs, the Howard Morrison Junior Trio and the Maori Volcanics.
