Call for rival gangs in Dunedin to resolve their differences

6:55 pm on 29 September 2011

A representative for Te Runanga o Otakou in Dunedin, is calling on rival gangs in the city to resolve their differences, otherwise members of the public risk getting hurt.

Tahu Potiki says his comment was sparked by a violent confrontation between the Mongrel Mob and Black Power in the suburb of Liberton on Sunday, during which a Black Power member was shot in the arm.

He says gangs need to take more responsibility as they're putting the lives of their neighbours at risk.

Mr Potiki says gang members are mature people with extensive networks, and the confrontation suggests communication between gangs has broken down.
