The Maori Council is considering stopping an expelled member from representing it on the Crown Forestry Rental Trust.
Maanu Paul has been dropped from the Council for bringing the organisation into disrepute for making public comments - something he denies.
Maori Council deputy chair Richard Orzecki says Mr Paul shouldn't have been appointed to the Crown Forestry Rental Trust - the body that helps Maori take claims against the Crown.
He says the matter should have been brought back to the Council's executive committee as there may have been another view as to who might better represent the Council's interests on the Crown Forestry Rental Trust.
The lawyer representing Mr Paul says the so-called expulsion is just an in-house dispute between senior members, which needs to be resolved.
