The Maori Party says it is not surprised the Mana Party wants to stand for all seven Maori government seats.
The Maori Party caucus has four of the seats. Labour's Nanaia Mahuta represents the Waikato-Hauraki ward, Parekura Horomia holds Ikaroa Tairawhiti, while Mana Party leader Hone Harawira is the MP for Te Tai Tokerau.
The Mana Party indicated at its first annual general meeting at the weekend it will campaign for all the seats.
Maori Party president Pem Bird says Mana is a registered party and is welcomed to do what it wants.
Mr Bird says the Maori Party will continue to focus on its own agenda.
Meanwhile, Labour says its voters are not turning to the Mana Party.
Mr Harawira says his new movement is taking support away from the main opposition party.
But Labour leader Phil Goff says one recent poll proves that not the case.
He says there was a massive swing in the Te Tai Tokerau by-election from Mr Harawira to Labour candidate's Kelvin Davis.
