A new web page that so far lists more than 170 marae in Northland aims to help reconnect young Maori who have left home and moved to cities.

It has taken Te Potiki National Trust five years to create the online maps, called Maorimaps.com, which aims to provide details of all marae in the country by 2014.

A director of the trust, Paora Tapsell, says the website will help young urban Maori to research which marae they come from, the wharenui (meeting house), and the people of the pa.
