A former leader of the Maori Women's Welfare League says Hannah Tamaki has a tough time ahead of her in her race for the presidency of the league.
The co-founder of Destiny Church has won a High Court bid to be allowed to stand, after her name was left off the voting papers.
Mrs Tamaki wanted the court to force the Maori Women's Welfare League to restart the election process.
Her request was granted, but the High Court also ruled that 10 branches with ties to the church won't be able to vote.
Those branches could have secured 100 votes for Mrs Tamaki, but the court found they were invalid.
Past MWWL president Dame Georgina Kirby says it will now be a difficult race for Mrs Tamaki.
She says seven other presidential candidates are long time members of the league, who have made significant contributions to their communities.
