There's a call for compromise and co-operation from the woman heading Tūhoronuku - the body seeking to drive Ngāpuhi's Treaty settlement.
Lorraine Toki says hapu groups opposing Tūhoronuku want to have Ngāpuhi's many land claims heard before negotiations with the Crown.
But she says Tūhoronuku feels Ngāpuhi have waited too long already for redress, and with goodwill, both sides of the debate can be honoured.
She says the group wants all hearings to be heard in a cohesive manner, so that tāngata whenua evidence is heard.
Although she says the opposing hapū should not delay the process any further, both groups need to co-operate for the betterment of the whole iwi.
Ms Toki says other tribes have settled their grievances with the Crown by negotiating first and having hearings later, or doing both in tandem.
