Far North leader says reviving te reo a priority

A Far North leader says if he could pick one recommendation from the Waitangi Tribunal claim covering Māori culture and identity, it would be the suggestion to do more to revive the Māori language.

The report recommends giving Te Taura Whiri, the Māori Language Commission, the lead role in boosting use of te reo.

Haami Piripi, of Te Rārawa, says te reo is a priority and it would be a travesty if the Māori language was lost.
