This year's Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, or Māori Language week, has the theme of hospitality.
The campaign has been running since 1975.
Last year's theme was Te Mahi Kai - the language of food.
For 2011, Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori (Māori Language Commission) has chosen Manaakitanga (hospitality).
The commission's chief executive, Glenis Philip-Barbara, says each year it picks a theme to prompt New Zealanders to think about using te reo.
She encourages people to converse in Māori when hosting visitors at marae, at home, at a party or even when interacting with people during the Rugby World Cup.
Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori ends on 10 July.
