The Maori Party's Hauraki-Waikato candidate, Susan Cullen, is confident its economic development policy will encourage tangata whenua to vote in this month's election.

The party launched its policy, He Kai Kei Aku Ringa, yesterday.

The party has multiple goals it wants to achieve, including advocating for a Maori trade expert desk at New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, to protect the integrity of Maori brands.

Susan Cullen, an entrepreneur and educationalist, believes the policy will inspire tangata whenua to vote.

She said Maori businesses would be very excited by the trade desk idea because she knows the struggles small business enterprises face.

Ms Cullen said support from New Zealand trade would be greatly welcomed by Maori businesses.
