Ngapuhi looking for negotiators

7:33 pm on 2 September 2014

The Board steering Ngapuhi's treaty settlement, is looking for its negotiators.

Tuhoronuku inducted its 22-member board and interim chair Sonny Tau was been appointed chair.

The election process has caused animosity in the north with members of the major hapu, Ngati Hine, starting a process to remove its two representatives on the mandate as they believes they do not accurately represent their views.

Sam Napia was announced deputy chair of Tuhoronuku - he is former chair of the Hauraki Māori Trust Board.

Mr Tau said it will advertise for negotiators at the end of this week, which they hope to be decided by the end of the year.

He said negotiations are expected to begin with the Crown early 2015.
